About Timothy J.
Timothy J. Pickens built an unusual professional path. He began in health care, earning a BSN in 1987 and later a master’s in nursing administration. Years in clinical practice followed. He kept patient care certifications current, including Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association.
That clinical background gave way to legal study. Pickens earned his J.D. from the University of Tulsa College of Law in 2005. Shortly after completing law school he moved into private practice. In 2008 he established the Timothy J. Pickens Law Office, PLLC, and has operated the practice since then.
Before and during his legal career he retained professional ties to health care. He has been a licensed registered nurse in Oklahoma since 1987. That dual perspective — clinical and legal — informs several aspects of his work, especially matters that touch on health, estates and family circumstances where medical history matters.
Pickens’s courtroom and public service roles include an appointment in 2014 as a public defender on the Osage County District Court deprived docket. He has also served as a volunteer mediator for early settlement programs and engaged with local business groups through the Tulsa Chamber of Commerce. In the Osage County Bar Association he held the roles of secretary and treasurer from 2012 to 2013.
Professional memberships have been a long-standing part of his profile. He belongs to the Tulsa County Bar Association and its estate planning section, the Oklahoma Bar Association estate planning section, and the American Bar Association estate law division. He has been a member of Phi Delta Phi since 2004. He also took part in the Tulsa Bar Association’s estate planning committee from 2009 to 2011.
Pickens is admitted to practice in Oklahoma and in the Cherokee Tribal Court and Osage Nation Tribal Court. His practice emphasizes estate planning and probate work, and he handles related matters that arise in county and tribal forums. He currently practices at his law office, concentrating on estate planning, probate, and related matters in Oklahoma and tribal courts.
