About Tillman Scott
Tillman Scott Roots earned his J.D. from St. Mary’s University School of Law in 2010. He completed his legal education at a school known for its emphasis on practical skills. The degree set the stage for work in public service and later private practice.
Shortly after graduating, Roots took a position with the Comal County District Lawyer’s Office. In 2011 he served as an Assistant District Lawyer and general counsel. That role placed him inside county government and gave him hands-on experience with the day-to-day responsibilities of a prosecuting office and the broader legal work that county entities require.
More recently, Roots worked in private practice. In 2022 he served as an associate lawyer at Pless Law Office. That stint added an outsider’s perspective to his government experience and exposed him to the processes of a smaller firm environment. The combination of public sector and private firm work shaped how he approaches client problems and case management.
Throughout his career Roots has practiced under the jurisdiction of Texas. His background includes courtroom exposure from the county level and the practical demands of firm life. Colleagues describe his career path as one that moves between institutional roles and client-focused representation, a mix that creates a familiarity with both government procedure and private-client expectations.
He continues to practice law in Texas and draws on his prior experience in county government and private practice in his current work. As of 2026 he maintains a practice in Texas, applying the perspective gained from roles in a district lawyer’s office and at a private firm to the matters he handles today.
