About Thomas W. Kidd
Thomas W. Kidd Jr. began his legal journey at Miami University of Ohio, where he studied political science and graduated in 1989. He went on to earn his J.D. from The Ohio State University Michael E. Moritz College of Law in 1993. Those years set the shape of a career that has crossed public service and private practice.
Early in his career Kidd served in prosecutorial roles. Records show he worked as an assistant prosecuting lawyer in the late 1990s and again in 2001. That work placed him inside county courtrooms and behind the charging decisions that start many criminal cases.
In 2004 he launched Thomas W. Kidd, Jr. LLC, moving from government work into private practice. He spent more than a decade building a solo practice and representing clients outside the prosecutor’s office. In 2017 he joined Kidd & Urling LLC as a partner, a role he continues to hold.
Kidd has been a member of the Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers since 2008. The membership reflects a professional interest in criminal defense, and it connects him to a statewide network of trial lawyers and continuing legal education. His background on both sides of the aisle—prosecutor and defense attorney—gives him a perspective shaped by courtroom work and case evaluation.
Colleagues describe Kidd as pragmatic in the courtroom. He prepares cases for trial and for resolution. He has handled plea negotiations, motions practice and jury work. Those tasks call for close attention to procedure, witness preparation, and evidence presentation. The work is often straightforward and sometimes contentious. He has spent years navigating those rhythms.
Today Kidd practices at Kidd & Urling LLC. His current practice centers on criminal defense matters and the work that surrounds them.
