About Thomas P.
Thomas P. Miller trained first as a social scientist and later as a lawyer. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Political Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1992. He went on to receive his J.D. from DePaul University College of Law in 1997.
His early legal work began in private practice. In 2001 he joined Sullivan Taylor & Gumina as an associate. A year later he moved to the Law Office of Elizabeth L. Krueger, P.C., where he continued as an associate. That partnership led to a formal collaboration: in 2010 he became a partner at Krueger & Miller. Three years later he opened his own firm and has served as principal of the Law Offices of Thomas P. Miller, P.C. since 2013.
Miller’s court credentials in DuPage County reflect work beyond courtroom advocacy. Since 2010 he has been a court-approved guardian ad litem and a court-approved custody mediator in DuPage County Court. Those roles place him in cases that touch on child welfare and parental responsibilities. He also holds memberships in several professional organizations. He has belonged to the American Immigration Lawyers Association since 2003, the DuPage County Bar Association since 2001, the Illinois State Bar Association since 2000, and the Chicago Bar Association since 2000.
Within the DuPage County Bar Association he has taken on leadership tasks. He served as Vice Chair of the Immigration Law Section for 2014–2015 and then as Chair for 2015–2016. Those positions involved organizing the section’s activities and representing its members in association matters.
Miller’s mix of courtroom appointments and association work points to two main strands in his practice. He handles immigration matters through his membership in AILA and related professional contacts. He also addresses family law issues, particularly custody and guardianship, through his court-approved roles and mediation work.
He maintains offices in both Chicago and DuPage, where he manages matters that arise at the intersection of immigration and family law. He currently practices from those offices, handling immigration, custody, and guardianship matters.
