About Thomas L. Kearney
Thomas L. Kearney IV built a foundation in two disciplines before turning to law. He earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Pittsburgh in 2006, completing a dual program in business and psychology. He then attended Widener University Delaware School of Law and received his J.D. in 2009. Those years shaped an approach that combines analytical discipline with attention to human behavior.
Early in his legal training he spent time in the federal court system. In 2008 he clerked for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, an experience that exposed him to trial procedure and the pace of federal litigation. After law school he joined public service in York County. In 2010 he served as an Assistant District Lawyer in the Major Crimes unit of the York County District Lawyer's Office, handling serious criminal matters and courtroom practice.
Kearney moved into private practice in the years that followed. By 2012 he was listed as a lawyer at The Law Office of Christopher A. Ferro, LLC. That role followed his prosecutorial work and expanded his exposure to client counseling, pretrial strategy and negotiations. Over time his professional path has included both sides of the criminal justice process, from major-case prosecutions to representation in private settings.
He has been an active participant in the Pennsylvania legal community. Since 2009 he has held memberships in the Pennsylvania Bar Association and the York County Bar Association, and he joined the American Inns of Court the same year. He is also a member of the Criminal Defense Law Division of the Pennsylvania Bar Association and has been part of the Pennsylvania Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers since 2012. He took on a leadership role locally as president of York County Young Lawyers from 2013 to 2014, a post that included organizing events and mentoring newer attorneys.
Those threads — education in business and psychology, a federal clerkship, work in a major crimes unit and private-practice experience — inform how he approaches cases. He practices in Pennsylvania and has continued his involvement in bar groups that concentrate on criminal law and trial practice. He currently practices law in Pennsylvania, focusing on criminal defense and related matters.
