About Thomas C
Thomas C West took a conventional route into the law. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Mississippi in 1987 and continued his studies at Baylor Law School, receiving his J.D. in 1990. The combination of a liberal arts background and a professional law degree shaped an approach that balances careful writing and courtroom strategy.
Early in his career he moved into public service. In 1991 he served as a felony prosecutor and as misdemeanor chief for the McLennan County Criminal District Lawyer. Those years in the district office put him in court frequently. He handled preliminary hearings, felony indictments and supervised misdemeanor dockets. The work demanded quick legal analysis and steady case management.
By 2000 he had entered private practice as a partner at Dunnam & Dunnam Harmon West Lindley & Ryan. As a partner he managed caseloads and worked alongside trial teams on criminal matters. The partner role broadened his responsibilities. It added client counseling, motion practice, and coordination of appeals to the daily work.
He is admitted to practice in Texas and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He also holds a Texas Board of Legal Specialization certification in Criminal Law. That certification is a formal recognition of a lawyer’s experience and testing in criminal practice. It informs how he approaches investigations, plea negotiations and courtroom strategy.
Colleagues and former prosecutors who have crossed paths with him describe a lawyer who is steady in court and direct at the table. He moves between trial work and appellate briefing. He drafts written arguments and argues motions from the bench. The blend of prosecutorial experience and private practice gives him a broad view of criminal cases at different stages.
His current practice continues in the field of criminal law. He handles state and federal matters, including trial representation and appellate work in Texas and before the Fifth Circuit. The present work centers on advocacy in courts and detailed preparation of criminal cases.
