About Thomas
Thomas Atkinson built his legal foundation in the classroom. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from Marquette University in 1990. He stayed in the Midwest to attend Mitchell Hamline School of Law, where he completed his J.D. in 1993 and took coursework in workers’ compensation law.
After law school he remained working in Minnesota law. Over the years he has handled matters that arise from workplace injuries and related disputes. He has experience guiding clients through administrative claims and contested hearings, and through civil litigation when cases move beyond agency proceedings. He combines courtroom experience with familiarity of the state’s workers’ compensation framework.
His professional affiliations reflect a long-standing connection to the plaintiff-side bar. He has been a senior member of the Minnesota Association For Justice since 2009. He also maintains other professional memberships. Those connections keep him engaged with changes in state practice and procedure.
Colleagues describe him as steady and pragmatic in case preparation. He approaches claims by focusing on facts, medical evidence and procedural strategy. That approach has informed his work in administrative hearings, settlement negotiations and trial settings.
Atkinson has spent much of his career at the firm that carries his name. He practices at Atkinson Gerber Law Office, where he handles a steady caseload of workers’ compensation matters. His work involves both initial claims and appeals, and he regularly deals with medical records, vocational evaluations and testimony from treating providers.
Outside the courtroom he has kept up with continuing education in workers’ compensation law and related civil practice. His education and long practice in Minnesota law inform how he evaluates cases and advises clients. He continues to represent individuals pursuing benefits and related remedies under Minnesota’s workers’ compensation system, operating his practice through Atkinson Gerber Law Office and serving clients in the state.
He currently focuses his practice on workers’ compensation cases in Minnesota.
