About Thomas A.
Thomas A. McCormack earned his J.D. from Case Western Reserve University School of Law. He built his legal foundation in Cleveland and moved into family law early in his career. That education anchored a steady career in domestic relations and related areas.
He began working at Chattman, Garfield Friedlander & Paul in 1979, serving as associate and later partner. In 1986 he became a partner at McCormack & Wolgamuth. Those years in private practice exposed him to a range of family law matters and to courtroom practice across Northeast Ohio.
In 2001 he took on a judicial role, serving as a trial magistrate for the Medina County Domestic Relations Court. The position placed him at the center of contested custody and support disputes and required him to handle complex evidentiary questions. He stayed engaged with the court system after that appointment, presenting on domestic relations issues for attorneys in Medina County from 2002 through 2008.
McCormack has combined practice and teaching. In 2001 he led a seminar at Cleveland State University on discrimination and employee benefits. He later participated in the Judicial College of the Ohio Supreme Court in 2008, offering insights on writing pension benefits into domestic relations decisions. His presentations reflect practical concerns that often arise when family law intersects with retirement planning and employment benefits.
He remains involved in professional education and court-related training. He has completed Guardian Ad Litem training through the Supreme Court of Ohio and maintains memberships in the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association, where he aligns with the Family Law Section, and the Ohio State Bar Association. Those associations keep him connected to developments in practice and procedural rules.
McCormack’s career shows movement between private practice and court service, and a recurring attention to the technical issues that complicate family law cases: pensions, benefits, and the handling of contested hearings. He has worked as both advocate and magistrate, roles that give him a dual perspective on litigation strategy and judicial decision-making.
He now practices under the name Thomas A. McCormack, Family Law. His current work centers on family law matters, including domestic relations, custody, support, and issues involving employee and pension benefits.
