About Theresa
Theresa Scott built an unusual academic foundation before entering the practice of law. She earned a B.A. at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, then stayed at UTK for two graduate degrees: a Master of Science in Education and a Master of Arts in History. She completed her legal training at Nashville School of Law and later began practicing as an attorney.
Her move into practicing law led her to Hughes & Coleman Injury Lawyers in 2024, where she joined the firm's team handling personal injury matters. At the firm she works alongside trial lawyers and support staff across multiple offices. Her role involves client intake, fact investigation and drafting pleadings, and she takes part in settlement negotiations and courtroom proceedings when cases progress to trial.
Scott’s background in education and history shapes how she approaches cases. The education training gave her experience in explaining complex ideas clearly and working with people from varied backgrounds. The history training reinforced skills in research and in tracing how events unfolded over time. Those skills translate into preparing medical records, timelines and demonstration exhibits that are used to present injury claims.
At Hughes & Coleman, Scott handles a range of personal injury matters. She represents people harmed in vehicle collisions and other accidents. Her work includes developing the factual record, coordinating with medical providers, reviewing expert reports and arguing for fair compensation. She also participates in client counseling, helping people understand potential outcomes and the steps involved in bringing a claim.
Scott holds current memberships in professional associations that serve lawyers and the injury bar. She appears regularly at firm hearings and mediations and contributes to team strategy meetings. Colleagues describe her as thorough and steady in case preparation and practical in the courtroom.
Outside the office she remains connected to Tennessee through her long association with the University of Tennessee, and she keeps up with continuing legal education required for practice. She lives and works in Tennessee and handles cases filed in the state. Her current practice concentrates on representing individuals in personal injury matters at Hughes & Coleman Injury Lawyers.
