Theresa Ann Lyons is a seasoned family law attorney based in Freehold, New Jersey. She earned her Juris Doctor with high honors from Rutgers School of Law in Camden in 2001. Additionally, she holds a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Rutgers University Graduate School of Social Work. She graduated in 2001. Ms. Lyons is admitted to practice in New Jersey State Court, New Jersey Federal Court, and the United States Supreme Court. She is also a certified matrimonial attorney by the New Jersey Supreme Court.
Ms. Lyons is the managing partner of Lyons & Associates, P.C., a full-service law firm with offices in Somerville and Morristown, New Jersey. The firm handles a variety of complex legal matters, including family law, estate planning, criminal defense, civil rights, business law, and guardianships. Under her leadership, the firm has been recognized multiple times, with Ms. Lyons herself being named to the Super Lawyers list in 2021 and 2022. She has also been honored by the American Institute of Family Law Attorneys as one of the "Top 10 Best Female Attorneys." In her early career, Ms. Lyons clerked for The Honorable Peter G.
Verniero, a now-retired Justice of the New Jersey Supreme Court. She has authored and published numerous articles on topics such as family law, the admissibility of expert testimony in federal courts, and free speech on the Internet. She is also the author of the best-selling book "Sticks and Stones, Life Lessons from a Lawyer." Beyond her legal practice, Ms. Lyons is deeply involved in community service. She has served on the Board of Trustees for WINGS for Growth and SAFE in Hunterdon, organizations dedicated to assisting victims of domestic violence. She has also been appointed by the New Jersey Supreme Court to serve on the state-wide Board of Continuing Legal Education. Additionally, she has taught "Law and Social Work" at the Graduate School of Social Work at Rutgers University, educating social work students about the legal system.
Ms. Lyons has been featured in over 250 news and media outlets globally, discussing various social topics, including the Ashley Madison scandal and COVID vaccine disagreements among parents. She is also a foster and adoptive parent to New Jersey’s abused and neglected children, maintaining ongoing contact with the courts and the Division of Youth and Family Services in that regard. In 2012, Ms. Lyons was admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court.
