About Theodore Ted
Theodore Ted Araujo has built a long career in bankruptcy law and consumer bankruptcy matters across three Northeastern states. He combines a background in economics with legal training, and he has moved between public, academic and private practice roles over four decades.
Araujo earned his B.S. in economics from Cornell University in 1979. He returned to Buffalo for graduate study, completing an M.A. in economics in 1983 and a J.D. in 1985 at SUNY Buffalo. The sequence gave him both analytical training and legal credentialing early in his career.
He began working in university legal services not long after law school. In 1988 he served as an assistant university counsel at Cornell University, handling institutional legal matters and gaining exposure to higher education law. He later served in the United States Marine Corps and held the rank of captain in 1991, a role that added leadership and operational experience outside the courtroom.
Araujo moved into private practice in the 1990s. He became a partner at Brown & Michaels, P.C. in 1997, then joined Altman & Wolfson, LLP as a lawyer in 1998. By 2003 he was associated with the Bankruptcy Law Center and the Bodow Law Office, PLLC, where his work centered on bankruptcy representation. His career path traces a steady shift toward consumer bankruptcy and insolvency matters.
He is admitted to practice in New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts. Since 2003 he has held the chair position for New York State in the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Lawyers. That role has kept him connected to developments in bankruptcy practice and to a network of practitioners who handle consumer insolvency issues.
Colleagues describe Araujo as methodical in case preparation and straightforward in client counseling. He handles filings and court appearances related to personal bankruptcy and works with clients on the legal and practical steps involved in insolvency. He also consults on procedural matters that arise in consumer bankruptcy litigation.
Over the years Araujo has balanced firm work with professional association involvement and occasional institutional employment. He has practiced under different firm structures and in different roles, from partner to staff counsel.
As of 2026 he maintains practice ties to the Bodow Law Office and the Bankruptcy Law Center and continues to handle consumer bankruptcy matters in the jurisdictions where he is admitted. His current practice focuses on consumer bankruptcy representation and related court work.
