About Theodore John
Theodore John Koban earned his law degree from Boston University School of Law in 1975. He entered the legal profession at a time when court dockets were changing and federal practice was expanding. The degree set the stage for a career that spans private practice and work with nonprofit groups devoted to access to legal services.
He established his own practice in 1981. That same year he began association with the Access to Justice Foundation. Over decades he has maintained a mix of trial and appellate work. He is admitted to the Massachusetts bar and has credentials to appear before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court.
Koban joined the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Lawyers in 1982 and has remained connected to that organization. His membership reflects long-standing involvement with the trial bar in the state. He served in a local leadership role as vice president of the Attleboro Area Bar Association from 2010 to 2011. Earlier in the 2000s he held membership in the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys from 2007 to 2010.
Those association ties point to a practice shaped by litigation and consumer matters. Over time his work has ranged across state and federal forums. He has handled matters at trial and has taken appeals to higher courts that require separate admissions. That dual orientation—trial courtroom work and appellate advocacy—marks the arc of his professional activity.
Colleagues describe him as steady in court and methodical in preparation. He has balanced private practice responsibilities with efforts tied to broader access initiatives. His longstanding connection to the Access to Justice Foundation signals a recurring interest in how legal services reach individuals who otherwise might lack representation.
Clients have encountered him in the trial courts of Massachusetts and in appeals brought before the First Circuit. He also holds the credential to present cases before the nation’s highest court when matters reach that level. He has kept his practice active through the Law Office of Theodore J. Koban, an office he established in 1981 and continues to operate.
He maintains a private practice in Massachusetts and handles matters that arise in state court and in the federal appellate courts where he is admitted to appear.
