About Thayer
Thayer Williamson began his academic path in Dallas. He finished at the Episcopal School of Dallas in 1985 and then earned a Bachelor of Arts from Texas Christian University in 1992. He completed his law degree at SMU Dedman School of Law in 1997.
His early years in the law were marked by steady progression through roles that exposed him to both civil practice and criminal prosecution. After law school he took a clerkship with Matthews, Carlton & Stein LLP in Dallas in 2000. The following year he joined Warmbrodt, Rachel & Associates in Plano as an associate lawyer. In 2002 he moved to public service as an assistant district lawyer in the Dallas County District Lawyer’s Office, gaining courtroom experience on the prosecution side.
In 2003 he established his own practice, founding The Law Office of G. Thayer Williamson. That same year he also took on a municipal role as an associate municipal judge and magistrate in The Colony, Texas. The combination of private practice and municipal judging broadened his perspective on criminal and local government matters.
Williamson’s résumé reflects a mix of courtroom work and municipal responsibilities. His time in the district lawyer’s office involved case handling under the county’s prosecutorial system. As a municipal magistrate he handled arraignments and other initial judicial duties that are common in city courts. Those roles provided recurring exposure to procedural and evidentiary issues that arise early in criminal cases.
He maintains memberships in local legal organizations. He is a member of the Dallas Bar Association and of the Dallas Young Lawyers Association. He also participates in the Dallas Young Lawyers Association’s Criminal Law Committee, where practitioners exchange practical insights about criminal practice in the region.
Over the years Williamson has balanced private representation with public duties. His practice has included defense and prosecution work, municipal matters, and the routine court appearances that define much of criminal practice at the county and city levels. He handles matters arising under Texas law and operates his office in that jurisdiction.
Today he continues to practice through The Law Office of G. Thayer Williamson. His work concentrates on criminal defense and municipal matters in Texas.
