About Terry L.

Terry L. Hazen trained at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, receiving his J.D. in 1987 after completing a B.A. at the University of Vermont in 1984. Those years set a clear path into litigation and federal practice. He entered the bar shortly after law school and has spent decades working in New York courts and on federal dockets.

His early career included time at Rudd, Rosenberg, Mitofsky & Hollender in 1991, where he handled matters that required courtroom presence and careful motion work. He later joined Mitofsky, Shapiro, Neville & Hazen LLP, a firm where he has continued to practice. His experience spans trial preparation, motion practice, and representation of clients in complex procedural settings.

Hazen is admitted to practice in New York and has credentials that extend to the federal level. He is authorized to appear before the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and is also admitted to the bar of the U.S. Supreme Court. Outside New York, he maintains membership in the Bar of the State of Connecticut and holds current membership in the New York State Bar Association.

Colleagues describe him as methodical in court work and practical in client consultations. He has worked on matters that often require coordination across state and federal lines, and his filings reflect attention to procedural detail. He has taken cases through various stages, from initial pleadings and discovery disputes to dispositive motions.

Throughout his career Hazen has balanced courtroom appearances with preparatory work. He has drafted briefs and argued before judges in both state and federal venues. That background gives him standing in matters that call for litigation experience and an understanding of how different courts approach procedural and substantive issues.

Today he practices at Mitofsky, Shapiro, Neville & Hazen LLP. His practice continues to involve litigation matters in New York state courts and federal courts, including the Southern and Eastern Districts, and matters that require admission to the U.S. Supreme Court. He maintains active memberships in the New York and Connecticut bar organizations and focuses his current practice on litigation and federal-court work.
