About Taylor M.

Taylor M. Hart built a steady path into criminal defense from the start. She completed a J.D. at the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 2016, where she concentrated on criminal law. Before that she earned a B.A. in Criminology and Justice Studies from California State University San Marcos in 2014.

Her time in law school included hands-on legal training. In 2015 she served as a legal clinical student with the Oxford Federal Project. The clinical setting exposed her to direct client work and courtroom procedures. In 2016 she spent a summer as a legal intern with the Wisconsin State Public Defender. That placement gave her experience in public defense and in preparing cases for trial.

Hart moved into private practice the year after law school. She joined Martinez & Ruby, LLP as an associate in 2017. At the firm she took on courtroom responsibilities, handled pretrial motion practice and conducted client interviews. She has worked on matters across the criminal docket and has trial experience that grew from her earlier public defender work.

Professional memberships have been a consistent part of her career. Since 2017 she has belonged to the Wisconsin Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. In 2020 she joined The National Trial Lawyers list of Top 40 Under 40, a professional group that brings together attorneys early in their careers who try cases. Those affiliations have kept her connected to peers who practice trial and appellate advocacy in Wisconsin and beyond.

Colleagues describe Hart as someone who pays attention to factual detail and courtroom procedure. She prepares written pleadings and argues motions before judges. She also meets clients at crucial stages, helping them understand potential outcomes and next steps in their cases.

Outside court dockets, Hart continues to deepen her legal knowledge through continuing education and the network provided by her associations. She remains based in Wisconsin and practices at Martinez & Ruby, LLP, representing clients in criminal defense matters.

She currently represents clients in criminal defense matters at Martinez & Ruby, LLP.
