About Taylor A.R.

Taylor A.R. Meehan built a legal path that runs from Midwestern classrooms to the federal bench. He completed undergraduate studies in history and journalism at the University of Missouri–Columbia in 2006, then headed to The University of Chicago Law School, earning his J.D. in 2013.

At Chicago, Meehan joined a class of peers who would go on to appellate work and litigation practice. The combination of a humanities background and journalistic training informed how he reads records and frames arguments. Those skills shaped his early steps out of law school and into federal clerkships.

Meehan began his post-law-school career as a law clerk on the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit in 2013. He spent a year in private practice as an associate at Bancroft PLLC in 2014. In 2015 he served as a law clerk at the Supreme Court of the United States. Those clerkships exposed him to appellate advocacy at the highest levels and gave him experience on complex legal questions under tight timelines.

After the clerkships Meehan returned to private practice. He joined Bartlit Beck LLP and advanced to partner in 2020. A year later he moved to Consovoy McCarthy PLLC as counsel. His résumé includes roles at firms known for challenging appellate and civil matters, and his career path reflects frequent work on appeals and briefing-heavy litigation.

Meehan’s practice has centered on appellate work and complex civil litigation. He has handled briefing, oral argument preparation and strategic decisions about how and when to press issues in higher courts. He is accustomed to cases that require parsing procedural records and drafting concise, tightly reasoned briefs for judicial review. Colleagues describe his writing as precise and his approach to oral argument as methodical.

A member of the Illinois State Bar since 2013 and the District of Columbia Bar since 2015, Meehan is admitted to practice in both jurisdictions. He publishes less frequently than he briefs; his primary public work appears in appellate filings and court records rather than academic journals. Meehan maintains an active practice in Washington through his role at Consovoy McCarthy PLLC, where he continues to handle appellate and civil litigation matters.
