About Tara
Tara Fappiano trained as a lawyer on the East Coast. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in liberal arts, majoring in English and sociology, from Fordham University in 1995. She continued her studies at St. John’s University School of Law and received her Juris Doctor in 1998.
Early in her career she gained admission to practice in several jurisdictions. She is admitted in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. She also appears in the federal courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York and the District of New Jersey. Her courtroom and federal admissions underpin a practice that moves between litigation and mediated resolution.
Mediation became a central part of her professional identity. She completed Basic Mediation Training at the New York Peace Institute and pursued advanced coursework through the American Arbitration Association. She also trained in conflict dispute management coaching at CINERGY. Those credentials led to appointment on the Panel of Presumptive Mediators for the New York Supreme Court, Bronx County, under the county’s Presumptive Mediation Program. In that role she handles civil disputes referred by the court and works with parties, counsel, and judges to find negotiated outcomes.
Her professional memberships reflect the range of her interests. She holds current membership in the New York State Bar Association, the Westchester County Bar Association and the Disability Rights Bar Association. She is also a member of the National Association of Disability Representatives (COPAA), the New York State Dispute Resolution Association (NYSDRA) and participates in Mediate.Com. Those affiliations keep her connected to developments in disability advocacy, dispute resolution practices and local bar initiatives.
She practices under the name Tara C. Fappiano, Lawyer at Law and manages a practice that blends mediation and traditional advocacy. Her work includes mediating court-referred matters, advising clients on dispute resolution options and representing clients in related litigation when necessary. She focuses her current practice on mediation, dispute coaching and legal representation in matters that benefit from negotiated solutions.
