About Tanya Sue
Tanya Sue Dohoney is an experienced criminal law attorney based in Fort Worth, Texas — She has been a member of the Texas State Bar since 1987. She is also admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court and the Federal Circuit. She holds dual board certifications in Criminal Law and Criminal Appeals from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
She earned her Juris Doctor (J.D.) from Southern Methodist University in 1986. Prior to that, she completed her undergraduate studies in History at the University of Texas at Austin. She began her legal career as a law clerk for the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals from 1986 to 1987. She then served as Chief Appellate Attorney and Felony Prosecutor at the McLennan County Criminal District Attorney’s Office from 1987 to 1991.
Following that, she worked as a Senior Appellate Attorney at the Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney’s Office from 1991 to 2017. In 2017, she transitioned to private practice as Of Counsel for Varghese Summersett PLLC in Fort Worth. In this role, she handles criminal law cases, including criminal appeals, drug crimes, expungements, fraud, gun crimes, internet crimes, sex crimes, theft, and violent crimes. Throughout her career, she has been involved in various publications and speaking engagements.
She has authored articles such as "As the Judges Saw It" in The Texas Prosecutor and "Preservation of Error" in the TDCAA State's Appellate Manual. She has also spoken at seminars like the TDCAA State's Appellate Advocacy Seminar. She is fluent in both English and French.
