About Tanya L.
Tanya L. Freeman began her academic journey at Caldwell College, where she earned a B.A. in Government, and continued to Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center for her J.D. Those credentials set the stage for a career that has moved between law practice, management and community service.
Her early professional years included roles outside traditional lawyering. She worked as a senior manager and auditor at Horizon Blue Cross/Blue Shield in 2001, then moved into law office management as a practice administrator at the Law Offices of Brian C. Freeman, LLC in 2005. During law school she gained courtroom exposure as a summer intern for the Hon. Michelle Hollar-Gregory at the Essex County Superior Court and as a legal extern in the Federal Court for the Eastern District of New York in 2011.
After passing into private practice, Freeman assumed a string of practice and leadership positions. She became a partner at the Law Offices of Brian C. Freeman, LLC and then a partner at Freeman Hughes Freeman, LLC in 2012. That year marked her deeper involvement in family law circles and bar associations. By 2014 she was participating in the Hudson County Superior Court’s Special Civil Part Mediation Program and serving on boards outside the firm, including a term as chairperson of the Board of Directors for University Hospital in Newark in 2014.
Freeman’s practice profile includes several leadership transitions. She served as partner and chair of the Family Law Department at Weiner Law Group, LLP beginning in 2015 and held counsel responsibilities for the New Jersey Federation of Republican Women the same year. In 2019 she launched Tanya Freeman Law LLC as managing partner and in 2022 took a principal role at Offit Kurman, P.A. Most recently, in 2023 she joined Callagy Law as managing partner of its Family Law Practice Group.
Her professional memberships are extensive and long-standing. She has been a trustee of the Hudson County Bar Association since 2017 and a barrister in The Justice Virginia Long Family Law American Inn of Court since 2017. Freeman maintains memberships in state and national organizations, including the New Jersey State Bar Association’s Family Law Section, the American Bar Association’s Family Law Section, the Garden State Bar Association and the National Bar Association. She has also been active in civic and charitable organizations, including past service on the University of Phoenix Jersey City campus Board of Trustees and leadership in local juvenile justice and health association efforts.
Day-to-day Freeman handles family law litigation and alternative dispute resolution, drawing on years of courtroom work, mediation program participation and law firm leadership. She currently practices family law, handling divorce, child custody, and other family law matters.
