About Tamu K. (T.K.)

Tamu K. (T.K.) Floyd brings a range of legal and academic credentials to her solo practice. She earned a J.D. from Indiana University Bloomington in 1999. Before that she completed both a B.S. in Engineering Management and an M.S. in Higher Education Administration at Purdue University. She later returned to graduate study, receiving an M.A. in Counseling from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2011.

Her early legal career included two federal clerkships that shaped her approach to appellate and trial procedure. In 2002 she served as a law clerk to Judge C. Arlen Beam of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. She later clerked for Judge Rosemary M. Collyer of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia in 2006. Those positions preceded several associate roles at national firms.

Floyd moved into private practice work at major firms during the 2000s. She was an associate at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld beginning in 2003. In 2006 she joined McDermott Will & Emery LLP as an associate and later worked as an associate at Cokinos, Bosien & Young in 2009. After a period of additional study in San Antonio, she launched her own practice in 2011 under the name Law Office of T.K. Floyd, PLLC, operating as a solo practitioner.

Her bar admissions and court privileges reflect a practice that crosses state and federal lines. She is admitted to practice in Indiana, Texas and the District of Columbia, and holds privileges before several federal appellate courts, including the Eighth, Ninth and Fifth Circuits, as well as the U.S. Supreme Court. Those admissions align with her clerkship background and her work on matters that implicate federal appellate procedure.

Floyd has also been active in local bar and civic organizations. She has belonged to the San Antonio Bar Association since 2009 and to the San Antonio Black Lawyers Association since the same year. She has served as president of the San Antonio Black Lawyers Association since 2012. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., dating to 2005.

She runs the Law Office of T.K. Floyd, PLLC as a solo lawyer in San Antonio. Her practice concentrates on appellate and federal litigation and on counseling clients in both state and federal courts.
