About T.J.
T.J. Roberts built a legal path that begins in small-town Texas classrooms and runs into courtrooms across the state. He graduated from Austin College in 2006 with a B.S. in Political Science and Government. Three years later he completed his J.D. at Texas State University-San Marcos in 2009.
Roberts gained practical courtroom and office experience early. While in law school he clerked at Gibson Carver, LLP in 2007 and then for Judge Sam Medina in 2008. Those stints exposed him to civil procedure and courtroom practice, and they preceded his move into private practice shortly after law school.
In 2009 Roberts became a partner at Harrell, Roberts & Associates. That role marked an immediate transition into firm leadership at a young point in his career. By 2013 he was a senior associate at Scott M. Brown & Associates, where he worked on a mix of trial and pretrial matters. He returned to partnership in 2018 at Terry & Roberts Law, where he remains a principal.
Roberts’s resume includes a mix of trial work and professional leadership. He served as president of the National Trial Lawyers Association from 2008 to 2009 and later helped found the Brazoria County Family Law Bar Association in 2018, a group he continues to lead. He holds memberships in the American Bar Association, the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, the Brazoria County Bar Association and the Williamson County Bar Association.
Civic work has also been part of his record. He served on the Lampasas City Council from 2012 to 2013. That local government experience added a public-service dimension to his professional life and informed his understanding of municipal and community issues.
Across his career Roberts has handled matters that arise in both criminal defense and family law settings. He has spent time in courtrooms and in negotiations. He has occupied partner roles and associate positions, and he has run a bar association. Those varied roles have shaped a practice style that blends courtroom familiarity with firm-side management.
Roberts is licensed to practice in Texas and maintains active memberships in several legal organizations. He currently practices at Terry & Roberts Law, handling criminal defense and family law matters as part of the firm’s work.
