About Svetlana
Svetlana Kats earned an LL.M. from Case Western Reserve University School of Law in 2003. She pursued advanced legal study early in her career, completing the graduate degree at a time when many attorneys were still finding their path. The degree signaled a deliberate move into practice that would center on litigation and federal work in Ohio.
She became managing partner of the Law Office of Svetlana Kats in 2006. In that role she established and ran a small firm based in Cleveland, handling a steady docket of matters that required appearances in state and federal courts. Running a practice brought a mix of client work and behind-the-scenes management. She balanced both tasks while maintaining a courtroom presence.
Kats is admitted to practice in Ohio and in the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. She has been a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association since 2010. That affiliation aligns her with other lawyers who handle immigration law, policy and litigation. She also holds other professional memberships that she maintains alongside her practice.
Over the years her caseload has involved matters that reach beyond local tribunals. Appearances in federal court and filings before appellate panels have been part of the record. She handles litigation that moves between district and appellate courts when cases require it. The work requires attention to procedural detail and readiness for oral argument when appeals proceed.
Clients have engaged her firm for a range of legal needs that call for counsel experienced in both state and federal filings. Running a firm since 2006 has meant supervising case strategy, managing filings and coordinating with clients across different stages of litigation. She has guided cases from initial pleadings through trial-level litigation and, where necessary, to appellate briefing.
Based in Cleveland, Ohio, she continues to operate the Law Office of Svetlana Kats. The office maintains regular practice in Ohio courts and in the Sixth Circuit when matters advance to that level. Her current practice focuses on matters that involve both immigration-related issues and litigation in state and federal forums.
