About Susanne
Susanne Gustin trained as a political scientist before turning to law. She earned a B.S. in Political Science from the University of Utah in 1987 and completed her J.D. at the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law in 1991. Those years in Salt Lake City set the stage for a career anchored in the state's courts and its professional institutions.
After law school she entered practice in Utah and over time built a practice that has remained centered in the state. Her work has combined trial courtroom experience and professional leadership. Early in her career she became active in the local defense bar and in bar governance, a pattern that has continued for decades.
Colleagues saw her take on leadership roles within key legal organizations. She served as President of the Utah Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers from 2001 to 2002. A decade later she led an Inn of Court, serving as President of the David K. Watkiss - Sutherland II American Inn of Court in 2011–2012. Since 2013 she has been a Third District Bar Commissioner for the Utah State Bar Association, a position she continues to hold. Those roles have involved mentoring younger lawyers, organizing educational programs and participating in discussions about court procedure and professional standards.
Gustin’s background in criminal defense is reflected in her association work and in the kind of matters she handles. Her practice has included trial work and courtroom representation. She has been a regular presence at hearings and trials in Utah, and peers know her for involvement in matters that require advocacy in court.
Her approach to practice mixes courtroom preparation and attention to procedure. She draws on years of local experience and relationships developed in the bar. She also participates in professional groups that emphasize ethics and practical skill development for trial lawyers.
She practices from a firm listed as Susanne Gustin Lawyer at Law, operating out of a main office in Utah. She maintains an active role in the bar and in criminal defense circles and continues to represent clients in trial and related proceedings.
Her current practice focuses on criminal defense and trial work in Utah.
