About Susan
Susan Deschler trained first as a political scientist and later turned to the law. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Wisconsin–Parkside and went on to the John Marshall Law School, where she completed her J.D. in 2001. Those years set a practical course. She entered practice prepared for courtroom work and for managing the pressures that come with criminal cases.
Her early work included a position in the Colorado county court system. In 2015 she served as a Deputy District Lawyer at Clear Creek County Court. That role put her before judges and juries on routine and contested matters. It also shaped how she approaches evidence, procedure and client interviews. The next year she opened a private practice, founding The Law Offices of Susan Deschler in 2016.
Since establishing her firm she has maintained admissions across three states: Colorado, Washington and Wisconsin. That multi-jurisdictional standing allows her to advise clients whose cases cross state lines. It also reflects a career that has not been limited to a single courtroom or a single set of procedures. Her practice blends trial work and pretrial advocacy, and the firm handles cases that arise at the county and municipal levels as well as in state court.
Her professional associations point to an emphasis on criminal defense and impaired driving cases. She holds membership in the National College for DUI Defense and served on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers from 2018 to 2021. Those roles exposed her to national conversations about criminal procedure, evidentiary standards and defense strategies. They also connected her to colleagues who handle technically complex and high-stakes cases.
Clients and colleagues describe her approach as straightforward. She prepares for hearings, lays out options and pursues the course she judges most likely to protect a client’s interests. She balances courtroom advocacy with negotiated resolutions when appropriate. The practice she leads is compact, with a focus on practical problem solving rather than on broad litigation of unrelated civil matters.
She continues to lead The Law Offices of Susan Deschler. She represents individuals in criminal defense and DUI matters at her firm, handling both courtroom appearances and case preparation.
