About Summer

Summer Murshid left Wisconsin for Washington, D.C., to earn her law degree and then returned to the state where she began her education. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, where she studied criminal justice and economics. She later received her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 2005.

Her early legal work included several internships and summer positions that touched on civil rights and community services. In 2007 she was a summer intern at WEAVE, Women Empowered Against Violence. The following year she worked with the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and spent a summer associate term at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman. Those experiences preceded her move into private practice.

In 2009 Murshid joined Hawks Quindel, S.C., as an associate lawyer. That role placed her in a litigation-oriented environment. She has balanced courtroom work with clinic-style volunteer efforts. Her record shows ongoing pro bono involvement alongside her firm duties.

Murshid’s practice threads together several areas. She handles labor and employment matters and takes on civil liberties issues through volunteer and board work. Election protection, voting rights advocacy and will preparation for first responders appear regularly in the list of her civic activities. She also holds memberships that connect her to broader professional conversations in Wisconsin’s legal community.

Outside the firm, Murshid remains active in several organizations. She serves as chair of the ACLU Milwaukee Chapter Board and is a member of the Wisconsin State Bar’s Labor and Employment Section Board. She also belongs to the Association of Women Lawyers. On the pro bono front she volunteers with the Volunteer Lawyers Project and Wills for Heroes, and she participates in Election Protection through the Lawyers’ Committee.

Colleagues describe her work as consistently engaged with public-interest matters as well as private disputes. She has combined litigation tasks with research, client counseling and community outreach. That mix reflects earlier internships in both nonprofit and large-firm settings, which exposed her to different approaches to advocacy.

Murshid practices law in Wisconsin and continues to split her time between firm responsibilities and volunteer projects. She is based at Hawks Quindel, S.C., and her current practice focuses on labor and employment law, civil rights issues and pro bono services.
