About Stuart M.
Stuart M. Dorf earned his law degree from the Illinois Institute of Technology in 1998 after completing undergraduate studies in history and European studies at Tulane University School of Law in 1994. His academic path combined liberal arts and legal training. That pairing has informed a career that moves between private practice, in-house roles and business management.
Early in his legal career he worked as a lawyer at Levenfeld Pearlstein in 2001. Two years later he shifted into a corporate role as National Sales Manager for NRC Realty & Capital Advisors, LLC. The move was short but notable for exposing him to the business side of real estate and capital transactions. He returned to law firm practice in 2006 as an attorney with Maddin, Hauser, Wartell, Roth & Heller, where he handled matters typical of a mid-size firm environment.
In 2011 Dorf took on the position of general counsel at 1-800-LAW-FIRM, PLLC. In that capacity he oversaw legal work for a national practice and handled the operational issues that arise when a law office serves clients across multiple jurisdictions. His resume shows alternation between litigation and transactional environments, and between private and in-house work. That variety has shaped how he approaches client problems.
Dorf is licensed to practice in Michigan. His roles across different employers and sectors have given him experience in corporate legal work, client counseling and the regulatory aspects of running a legal services operation. He has worked on both sides of the aisle: advising businesses on internal matters and representing clients through adversarial proceedings when necessary. The non-legal management role in real estate introduced him to sales, deal structuring and capital advisory concerns, which inform the commercial perspective he brings to legal questions.
Colleagues describe him as pragmatic and methodical. He tends to break complex matters into discrete tasks and to manage teams and outside counsel where projects demand coordination. He has moved between law firm environments and in-house counsel positions several times, which has given him a practical view of cost, risk and client expectation.
He maintains an office at 23023 Orchard Lake Road and practices in Michigan. His current practice centers on corporate and commercial matters.
