About Steven

Steven Seiden earned his undergraduate degree at the University of New Mexico in 1971, graduating with a B.S. in Business Administration. He went on to receive his J.D. from the University of San Fernando Valley College of Law in 1975. Those academic years set the stage for a long career in criminal law and legal advocacy.

After law school Seiden entered practice in California. He is admitted to practice in the State of California and is also admitted to appear before the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Over time he has maintained a practice that reaches both trial courts and appellate forums within those jurisdictions.

Seiden has been involved in professional organizations relevant to criminal defense for decades. He has been a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers since 1995. He joined California Lawyers for Criminal Justice in 1980 and has been affiliated with the California Public Defenders Association since 1980 as well. Those long-term memberships reflect a steady engagement with the professional networks that serve defense practitioners.

He operates from the Criminal Law Office of Steven A. Seiden. In that practice he handles matters that arise under California criminal statutes and represents clients in proceedings before state courts. The office has handled a range of criminal matters and has pursued appellate work before the Ninth Circuit when cases have raised questions of law suitable for review.

Colleagues and opposing counsel describe Seiden as a practitioner who relies on courtroom experience and familiarity with appellate procedure. He applies a practical approach to case preparation, combining investigation and case law research to advance client positions. That approach has guided his interactions in both plea negotiations and contested hearings.

Through sustained membership in statewide and national defense groups, Seiden has kept up with developments in criminal law and procedures. He continues to participate in the professional conversations that shape defense practice in California. He represents clients in criminal matters in California and handles appeals before the Ninth Circuit.
