About Steven
Steven Sciancalepore took a conventional path into law but has built a varied practice through public service and private work. He studied political science at Colgate University, graduating in 2009, and earned his J.D. from Brooklyn Law School in 2012. Those early years established the academic grounding for a practice split between courtroom work and trial preparation.
Soon after law school he began practicing under his own name. In 2012 he listed himself as a lawyer-at-law, and the next year he joined the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office as an assistant prosecutor. That period in the prosecutor’s office gave him direct trial experience and exposure to case preparation under the timelines and pressures of public prosecution. He moved back into private practice in 2015, taking a position at Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith LLP, where he worked on litigation matters for several years.
In 2017 Sciancalepore opened his own practice, operating as Steven Sciancalepore, Lawyer at Law. He has maintained that operation since then. Running a small firm requires juggling casework, client intake and courtroom appearances. He has handled matters at various stages, from initial charging decisions to hearings and trials.
He is admitted to practice in New Jersey and New York, and he is also authorized to appear in the District Court of New Jersey. Those admissions allow him to take cases in state and federal trial courts within the region. He retains memberships in several professional groups that reflect his courtroom background, including the State Bar of New Jersey, the New Jersey Bar Association and the New York State Bar Association.
Sciancalepore also belongs to local and specialized organizations. He is a member of the Hudson County Bar Association and the North Hudson Lawyers Club. He holds membership in the Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers of New Jersey and the American Bar Association. Those affiliations offer regular contact with practitioners on both the prosecution and defense sides of criminal law.
Colleagues and clients who have worked with him note that his career crosses the public–private divide. He has experience as an assistant prosecutor and as a private trial lawyer. That mix informs his approach in court and in advising clients about risk and procedure.
He continues to operate his own practice in New Jersey and New York. His current practice centers on criminal matters and trial work in state and federal courts.
