About Steven P.
Steven P. Gregory studied literature and science before he turned to the law. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and Biology from the University of Alabama in 1975, then completed a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing at the same campus in 1982. Nearly a decade later he returned to the university for a law degree, receiving his J.D. from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1991. Those successive degrees trace a path from the humanities and sciences to legal training.
That varied academic background informs how he approaches legal work. Early training in creative writing sharpened his drafting and analytical skills. Study in biology gave him a practical vocabulary for technical topics that sometimes surface in legal matters. After law school he established his practice in Alabama and maintained membership in the Alabama State Bar. Over the years he has handled the day-to-day demands of running a small law office and managing client files in a state court system he has known for decades.
Colleagues describe him as someone who writes clearly and argues plainly. He spends time crafting written work rather than relying on jargon. In hearings and meetings he tends to favor direct explanations that lay out the facts and the legal issues without embellishment. Those habits reflect both his literary training and long experience in legal practice.
Gregory’s workaday practice has involved the kinds of tasks common to a solo or small-firm lawyer: counseling clients, preparing pleadings, conducting discovery and appearing in local courts. He has combined his ability to write and analyze with the practical skills needed to move cases forward. He is a member in good standing of the Alabama State Bar and works from an office in the state where he was educated and licensed.
He is based at Gregory Law Office, P.C., where he continues to serve clients across Alabama. His practice currently focuses on providing legal representation and client counseling to individuals and businesses in Alabama.
