About Steven N.
Steven N. Peskind has practiced law in Illinois since earning his law degree in 1985. His career traces a steady course through family law, local bar work and community boards. Over the years he has balanced courtroom work with committee service and institutional involvement.
He completed his undergraduate studies at Tulane University in 1982 and received his J.D. from DePaul College of Law in 1985. Those years set the foundation for a practice that has been centered in Kane County and the surrounding area. He later returned to DePaul in a governance role, joining the advisory board of the DePaul College of Law Family Law Center in 2008.
Peskind began his legal career as an associate at the Law Offices of David P. Peskind in 1985. Three years later he became a partner at Peskind & Peskind, Ltd. In 1996 he opened his own firm and has served as principal of the Peskind Law Office since then. He is licensed to practice in Illinois and in federal district court, and his local leadership includes a term as president of the Kane County Bar Association from 1999 to 2000.
His involvement extends beyond private practice. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (2007–present) and joined the American Law Institute in 2006. He served as chair of the Law Practice Management & Technology Committee of the ABA Section of Family Law from 2008 to 2009. He took part in a county task force that reviewed Kane County custody rules in 2004–2005 and has been a member of the Illinois Family Law Study Committee since 2008.
Peskind has also contributed to health-related governance and ethics work. He has served on the Rush-Copley Hospital Medical Ethics Committee since 2007 and has been on the board of the Rush-Copley Healthcare Foundation since 2006. Locally, he maintains ties to the St. Charles Chamber of Commerce, reflecting a practice rooted in community affairs.
In the courtroom and at the negotiation table he handles divorce cases, child custody disputes, property division matters and related family law issues. He frequently appears on matters that require coordination between state and federal proceedings. His practice has included rule drafting and participation in committees that shape local family law procedures.
Peskind remains principal of the Peskind Law Office, where he continues to concentrate on family law, custody and divorce matters in Illinois.
