He then obtained his Juris Doctor from the William S — Richardson School of Law at the University of Hawaii in 1996. After beginning his legal career with Stirling & Kleintop in 1996, where he became a partner in 2000, Mr. Hartley expanded his practice to Indiana in 2004. There, he joined Mallor, Clendening, Grodner and Bohrer, LLP, continuing his focus on family law. In 2005, he returned to Hawaii and co-founded Lockwood & Hartley, ALC, with Frank T.
Lockwood. In 2009, he established his current firm, Hartley & McGehee, LLP, to further serve the community in all areas of family law. Throughout his career, Mr. Hartley has been actively involved in professional organizations. He has been a member of the Hawaii State Bar Association since 1996, serving in various leadership roles within the Family Law Section, including Secretary from 2000 to 2003, Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect in 2004, and Chair in 2012. He is also a member of the Hawaii Christian Legal Society.
Mr. Hartley has been recognized for his contributions to family law, serving as a court-appointed Voluntary Settlement Master for the Family Court since 2003. He has authored numerous articles and delivered presentations on topics such as paternity, child support, property division, mediation, discovery strategies, and divorce tax matters. He is licensed to practice law in Hawaii and Indiana, and has been admitted to the U.S. District Court for the District of Hawaii and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana.
