About Steven J.
Steven J. Fischer took a direct route into law. He completed a Bachelor of Arts at the State University of New York at Buffalo in 2007 and earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Cincinnati College of Law in 2010. Those formative years shaped his interest in courtroom practice and criminal defense.
After law school, Fischer established his practice in North Dakota. He is admitted to practice in that jurisdiction and has built a practice that centers on criminal matters. Over the years he has handled cases at every stage, from arraignment to trial, and he routinely appears in state and local courts on behalf of individuals facing criminal charges.
Fischer’s work includes impaired driving cases and other criminal-defense matters. He belongs to the American Association of Premier DUI Lawyers and has served as an executive member of that organization since 2016. That affiliation places him in a network of lawyers who exchange strategy and training specific to driving-under-the-influence prosecutions. He also maintains memberships in professional circles within North Dakota.
In the courtroom he prefers clear, concise advocacy. His practice combines written motions, negotiated resolutions, and trial work. He represents clients at pretrial hearings and plea negotiations, and he prepares for trial when cases cannot be resolved. Case preparation tends to be methodical. He examines police reports, reviews breath- and blood-test results, and interviews witnesses when appropriate.
Colleagues describe Fischer as practical in approach. He evaluates the strengths and weaknesses of a case early and lays out options to clients in straightforward terms. He aims to identify procedural issues and evidentiary gaps that can be raised on behalf of a client. That work often involves collaborating with experts or consulting forensic testing where the facts call for it.
Outside the courtroom he continues professional development through association programs and peer training. He has kept active in the American Association of Premier DUI Lawyers since joining its executive membership in 2016. That ongoing engagement informs his handling of impaired-driving prosecutions and related defenses.
He practices in North Dakota and represents individuals in criminal-defense matters. His current practice concentrates on criminal defense and impaired driving cases.
