About Steven
Steven Goldburd built a legal education that mixes accounting and tax study. He earned a B.S. in accounting from Brooklyn College and a J.D. from Fordham University School of Law. He later completed an LL.M. in Tax Law at New York Law School. Those credentials sit at the center of a career that has moved between public- and private-sector roles and courtroom work.
He began his post-law school career in tax practice, joining Deloitte Tax as a tax consultant in 2003. He spent the mid-2000s in roles focused on tax research and compliance, including positions at PricewaterhouseCoopers and as a tax research manager at Geller & Company in 2006. Those years gave him hands-on experience with complex tax analysis and corporate reporting issues.
In 2008 he shifted into a firm-side litigation role as managing lawyer at The Law Offices of Donald G. Koch, PLLC. Two years later he became a partner at Goldburd McCone LLP, a position he has held since 2010. He also took on an executive role as a director at Goldburd Brothers in 2013. Across these positions he has handled client counseling, case management, and the interplay between transactional tax planning and contested matters.
His credentials include admission to practice in New York and several federal forums. He is admitted to the U.S. Tax Court, the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, the U.S. Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. He also holds membership in the New York County Lawyers Association, the American Bar Association, and the New York State Bar Association, each listing him as a member since 2007. His bar admission is through the Supreme Court of New York.
Goldburd’s practice draws on both accounting background and tax law training. He handles disputes that require technical tax knowledge as well as litigation skills. His work routinely touches on tax controversies, federal litigation, and matters that cross administrative and judicial forums. Cases can involve complex factual records and multiple levels of review, including trial and appellate practice.
Peers and clients encounter a lawyer accustomed to translating dense tax rules into litigation strategies. He combines experience from big-firm tax departments, boutique tax practice, and courtroom roles. He currently practices at Goldburd McCone LLP, where he concentrates on tax law and related litigation matters.
