About Steven
Steven Fingerhut built a path to the law from an unexpected starting point: mathematics. He earned a B.A. in mathematics from The College of New Jersey before turning to legal studies. That background in analytic thinking followed him into law school and into practice.
Fingerhut obtained his J.D. from Albany Law School in 2013. He entered the profession at a time when courtroom procedure and statutory detail were both changing rapidly. The law degree gave him the tools to read complex materials and to frame arguments that rest on careful analysis.
In 2015 he joined Phillips & Associates, Lawyers at Law, PLLC as a lawyer. He has since practiced at that firm, taking on matters that require appearances in both state and federal courts. His work at the firm has involved litigation tasks common to trial practice, from drafting pleadings to representing clients at hearings.
He is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey and is authorized to appear in several federal tribunals. Those include the Southern, Eastern, Northern and Western Districts of New York, the District of New Jersey and the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. That range of admissions allows him to handle cases that cross state and federal lines.
Fingerhut maintains memberships in professional groups that align with employment litigation circles. He belongs to the National Employment Lawyers Association and its New York chapter, and he is a member of the New York County Lawyers Association. Those affiliations put him in regular contact with peers who litigate employment matters and civil disputes.
Colleagues describe him as methodical in preparing cases and attentive in court. He approaches fact development with the same precision his undergraduate studies demanded. In negotiations and hearings he emphasizes clear presentation of issues and adherence to procedural rules. His practice at Phillips & Associates involves typical client counseling and courtroom work found in litigation practices.
He continues to handle matters in state and federal courts and remains active in professional associations related to employment litigation and county bar activities. His current practice focuses on litigation and courtroom representation in matters brought in New York and New Jersey courts and federal districts.
