About Steven Don

Steven Don Goodspeed earned both a Juris Doctor and an MBA from the University of Oklahoma in 1999. He completed his legal studies at the University of Oklahoma College of Law and finished his graduate business degree the same year. Those dual credentials gave him tools to understand law and organization-level decision making.

Goodspeed’s early career is not detailed here, but his academic background suggested an interest that spans legal doctrine and the managerial side of practice. Over time he moved into roles that combined counsel and advisory work for institutional clients. He has navigated matters that require attention to both legal detail and institutional policy.

In 2023 he became a partner at Gaines, Goodspeed & Juba, P.C., which does business as My Church Law Office. The change formalized a long-term role advising religious organizations and churches. As partner he shares responsibility for client intake, case strategy, and the firm’s approach to matters that arise for congregations and faith-based organizations.

His practice addresses issues commonly faced by religious institutions. He advises on governance questions, property matters, and compliance with state and federal rules that apply to tax-exempt entities. He also assists in preparing and reviewing organizational documents, advising boards and ministers, and handling transactional work tied to church operations.

Colleagues describe Goodspeed as thorough and practical. He favors clear written advice over dense legal theory. That practical streak suits clients that need help translating legal requirements into workable internal policies. He has worked with boards, clergy, and lay leaders on matters that range from routine corporate governance to more complex property and employment questions.

Outside of case work his MBA background informs how he approaches client problems. He reads organizational charts and budgets as carefully as statutes and ordinances. That combination of skills helps when a church faces a novel question that touches governance, resources, and legal risk.

He maintains his practice at My Church Law Office, operating within Gaines, Goodspeed & Juba, P.C. He practices in Texas and represents congregations and religious organizations on governance, property, compliance, and related legal matters.
