About Steven
Steven Becker is an attorney whose career spans corporate counsel roles and private practice. He trained first in the sciences and then turned to law. The shift from pre-med studies to the courtroom set the stage for a career that crosses commercial, corporate and litigation settings.
Becker earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology (Pre-Med) from the University of Bridgeport in 1978. He then attended the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University, receiving his J.D. in 1982. Those academic years gave him a grounding in analytical thinking and the legal doctrine he would apply in business and regulatory matters.
He began his legal career in private practice. In 1982 he joined Goodhue Lange Banks & Arons. Two years later he moved in-house, taking a lawyer position at Carvel Corporation in 1984. Those early roles combined transactional work and discrete litigation tasks. They also provided experience in day-to-day corporate operations and regulatory issues that corporations face.
By 1990 Becker had stepped into chief legal roles, serving as General Counsel at The Computer Factory, Inc. In 1992 he took a senior corporate post as Director and Associate General Counsel at Canon U.S.A., Inc. There he worked on contracts, compliance matters and legal strategies for a large multinational operating in the U.S. market. The progression from outside counsel to corporate legal leadership reflects a trajectory many companies follow when mature legal programs require in-house counsel who understand both business and law.
Becker is admitted to practice across several jurisdictions, including New York, Connecticut and Georgia. He is also admitted to the U.S. Supreme Court and several federal district courts: the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and the Northern District of Georgia. He holds memberships in the American Bar Association and the Dekalb Bar Association.
In 2019 he opened Becker Law LLC. The firm handles matters that draw on his corporate counsel background and courtroom admissions. He represents clients on corporate matters, contract disputes and matters that require federal court practice. Becker maintains a practice that reflects his years in both private firms and corporate legal departments.
