About Steve
Steve Schanker built a legal career that moves quietly but steadily through Missouri and Kansas courts. He took a traditional path into the law, beginning with local education and then moving into practice in the region where he trained.
He earned both his Bachelor of Arts and his Juris Doctor degrees from the University of Missouri–Kansas City. The dual degrees anchored him in the Kansas City legal community and provided the academic grounding for work at both firm and solo practice levels.
Early in his career he joined Bortnick, McKeon, Sakoulas & Schanker, P.C. as an associate in 1995. That period gave him exposure to firm-based practice and the routines of client representation, case preparation, and courtroom procedure. Colleagues from that time recall a steady attention to the practical tasks that keep a practice functioning.
In 2003 he began practicing under the name Steve Schanker, Lawyer at Law. He has maintained that practice since then, representing clients in matters filed in state venues across Missouri and Kansas. He holds membership in the Johnson County Bar Association, where he remains active in local legal circles.
Schanker’s work has centered on matters handled in state courts and administrative forums. He draws on years in both firm and solo settings when preparing filings, advising clients on case strategy, and appearing at hearings. His style is pragmatic: clear, sometimes brisk, and oriented toward resolving the concrete issues clients bring.
Outside of casework, his career reflects steady participation in the legal community rather than public-facing roles or academic appointments. He has not been presented here with additional public honors or published works, and the record focuses on his practical practice activity in the Midwest.
He currently concentrates his practice on matters arising in Missouri and Kansas state courts and related administrative proceedings.
