About Steve

Steve Churchill trained at two of the country’s most prominent schools before turning to a career that blends classroom work and courthouse advocacy. He earned a B.A. from Stanford University in 1988 and a J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1993. Those degrees framed a career spent largely on employment and civil rights issues in Massachusetts.

His early professional step into private practice came in 1994 when he joined Conn Kavanaugh Rosenthal Peisch & Ford, LLP as a partner. That role placed him in day-to-day litigation and client counseling. In 2004 he returned to Harvard Law School to direct the Employment Civil Rights Clinic at the Legal Services Center, overseeing clinic litigation and supervising students. He served as a Lecturer on Law at Harvard in 2007, teaching and mentoring law students on employment matters.

Churchill later moved back into plaintiff-side employment litigation. He became a partner at Lichten & Liss-Riordan, P.C., in 2010. Three years later he helped found Fair Work, P.C. and became a principal there in 2013. Those positions reflect a steady movement toward running a practice that handles individual and systemic workplace claims and related civil rights matters.

Outside his casework he has taken on roles in nonprofit governance. Since 2007 he has been a co-founder and board member of Fair Employment Project, Inc. He also joined the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under the Law of the Boston Bar Association in 2013 and remains on that board. Those engagements have run alongside his work as a practitioner and occasional teacher.

His time leading the Employment Civil Rights Clinic and his years in private practice have given him experience in supervising litigation teams, guiding student attorneys, and advancing claims on behalf of employees. He has moved between academic settings and firm practice, carrying experience from each into the other. The pattern in his career shows repeated engagement with workplace discrimination, wage-and-hour, and civil rights claims.

He is licensed to practice in Massachusetts and maintains an office at Fair Work, P.C. He currently practices at Fair Work, P.C., handling employment litigation and civil rights matters.
