About Steve
Steve Caya built a legal foundation in the Midwest. He took his undergraduate studies at the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater, finishing in 1986, then earned his J.D. from Hamline University School of Law in 1989. Those years set the stage for a practice anchored in Wisconsin courts.
After law school, Caya entered local practice and became a regular presence in the Rock County legal community. He joined the Rock County Bar Association early in his career and has maintained that membership since 1992. The long tenure in the county bar reflects steady engagement in local matters and courtroom practice over decades.
In 2003 he became a partner at Nowlan & Mouat LLP. That milestone marked a shift into firm leadership while keeping a hands-on role in litigation and client work. As a partner, he has balanced casework, courtroom time and the responsibilities that come with guiding younger lawyers at the firm.
Caya’s professional affiliations extend beyond his county bar. He holds memberships in the American Bar Association, the American Board of Trial Advocates and the American Trial Lawyers Association. Those organizations are oriented toward trial advocacy and professional standards. His participation suggests frequent courtroom engagement and an interest in the procedural and ethical contours of trial work.
Colleagues and peers would point to his steady presence in trial circles and his continued participation in bar activities. He has stayed active in professional groups while practicing in Wisconsin for many years. That continuity supports a profile of an attorney who blends local knowledge with broader exposure to trial practice and the networks that sustain it.
Caya’s career traces a straightforward path from regional education to a long-term practice in Wisconsin. He earned his law degree in 1989, joined his local bar in 1992 and rose to partnership at Nowlan & Mouat LLP in 2003. He remains based in Wisconsin and practices as a partner at Nowlan & Mouat LLP.
