About Steve
Steve Alizio moved from the classroom to the courtroom over the course of a career that combines education and law. He earned his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School in 2016. Before law school he completed an M.S.Ed. in Secondary Mathematics Education at Hofstra University in 2006 and a B.A. in Philosophy and Political Science at George Washington University in 2004. He also spent time studying Philosophy and Politics at Pembroke College, Oxford in 2002.
His professional life began in education. In 2006 he taught high school mathematics in the Herricks Union Free School District. That experience left a practical mark on his later legal work. After law school he joined the New York Legal Assistance Group as a Law Fellow in the organization’s Special Education Unit in 2016. A year later he opened his own practice, serving as Principal Lawyer at The Law Office of Steven Alizio, PLLC.
Alizio’s background in schools and classrooms informs the cases he takes. He holds a New York State Professional Certificate to teach Mathematics for grades 7–12. That credential and his classroom years give him direct perspective on schools’ operations, student needs, and the administrative processes families face.
His time at the New York Legal Assistance Group involved work on special education matters. He has continued that trajectory in private practice, taking on matters that intersect law and education. He is active in several professional and community organizations related to education and legal advocacy. Current memberships include the New York City Bar Association, the New York County Lawyers Association, the State Bar of New York, ARISE Coalition (Action for Reform in Special Education), and the Council of Parent Advocates and Lawyers. He is also involved with INCLUDEnyc through a junior board role and continues part-time volunteer work with NYLAG’s Special Education Unit.
Colleagues and clients describe him as someone who brings classroom experience to legal advocacy. He has balanced private practice responsibilities with volunteer roles and association work since founding his firm. He practices in New York and has developed a practice pattern that draws on his dual background in education and law.
He currently maintains The Law Office of Steven Alizio, PLLC in New York, where his practice addresses special education and other school-related legal matters.
