About Stephen

Stephen Relyea is an attorney who earned his J.D. from Wake Forest University School of Law in 2008 after completing a B.A. at George Mason University in 2002. He moved from classroom into practice with a steady march through roles that combined courtroom work and client counseling. His academic record set a clear path to practice in both state and federal arenas.

He began his legal career as an associate at BWW Law Group in 2009. In that role he worked on a range of matters typical for early-career litigators: legal research, drafting pleadings and motions, and appearing in court under supervision. The position provided him with front-line experience in managing client files and preparing cases for trial.

In 2014 he became a shareholder at Boleman Law Office. As a shareholder he took on greater responsibility for case strategy and firm operations. He handled client relations, supervised junior attorneys and coordinated litigation efforts. The move marked a shift from associate-level duties into leadership within a law firm setting.

In 2022 he joined Financial Freedom Legal as a lawyer. That transition brought him into a different practice environment and a new client base. He is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and in Virginia. Those admissions allow him to handle matters in state courts and at the federal appellate level.

Over the course of his career he has worked on matters spanning municipal and circuit court dockets as well as federal filings when required. His experience includes courtroom appearances, appellate briefs and the management of complex client files. Colleagues describe him as methodical in preparation and direct in courtroom presentation. He balances attention to procedural detail with a willingness to press an argument when facts and law align.

He maintains an active practice at Financial Freedom Legal and represents clients across his admitted jurisdictions. He continues to handle litigation and appellate matters as part of his work at the firm.
