Stephen R — Wigginton is an attorney based in Fairview Heights, Illinois. He earned his Juris Doctor from Saint Louis University School of Law in 1998. Prior to law school, he completed his undergraduate studies at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. In August 2010, President Barack Obama nominated Wigginton to serve as the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois. He was confirmed by the U.S.
Senate and sworn into office on August 27, 2010. During his tenure, he led efforts in prosecuting health care fraud and organized crime, and his office recovered over $450 million through civil and criminal actions. Wigginton resigned from his position as U.S. Attorney on December 11, 2015, to return to private practice. He joined Armstrong Teasdale LLP, a national law firm based in the St.
Louis area. In 2017, Wigginton faced legal challenges, including multiple charges of driving under the influence (DUI). In March 2023, the Illinois Supreme Court suspended his law license for one year due to these offenses. As of February 2026, Wigginton's license status is "voluntarily inactive and not authorized to practice law – Last Registered Year: 2023." Wigginton has been admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois, the U.S.
