About Stephen R

Stephen R Reily built a legal foundation at two of the country's most selective schools. He earned a B.A. in English from Yale University in 1986 and completed his J.D. at Stanford Law School in 1990. Those years shaped his approach to complex text and complex transactions alike.

He moved quickly into appellate and Supreme Court work after law school. Reily clerked for Judge John Minor Wisdom on the U.S. Court of Appeals in 1991 and then for Justice John Paul Stevens at the U.S. Supreme Court in 1992. He later spent time in private practice as an associate at Frost Brown Todd beginning in 1996, where he applied appellate training to client work and litigation support.

In 1998 he shifted toward business and licensing. He became managing director and chairman of IMC Licensing, a role that tied legal judgment to commercial strategy. That position sits alongside his involvement with International Marketing Concepts, Llc, an office listed under his professional activities. Over the next two decades Reily helped start and steer several ventures. He co-founded and chaired SUM180 in 2014, co-founded Clickher in 2017 and joined the board of the Speed Art Museum that same year. In 2021 he launched Seed Capital Kentucky and serves as its founder and chairman.

Reily's career runs across law, licensing and entrepreneurship. He has spent years structuring licensing arrangements, advising on commercialization and helping early-stage organizations find governance and capital solutions. His background in appellate practice and at the Supreme Court informs his attention to precedent and careful contract drafting. At the same time, his board roles and venture activity put him in operational conversations about growth, fundraising and intellectual property strategy.

Colleagues describe him as a pragmatic leader in cross-disciplinary teams, someone comfortable in a courtroom, a boardroom and a startup pitch session. He moves between roles that are legal, commercial and institutional, bringing a steady, text-oriented judgment to each. He remains active in business development and licensing through IMC Licensing and International Marketing Concepts, Llc, and he continues to lead Seed Capital Kentucky and other initiatives he helped create. His current practice centers on licensing, deal structuring and early-stage investment support.
