About Stephen Pleck

Stephen Pleck Johnson is a Wisconsin-educated attorney whose career spans public defense, title work and long-standing local bar involvement. He trained at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, earning a B.S. in Natural Sciences (Education), biology, in 1965. He returned to the same campus for law school and received his J.D. in 1969.

After law school Johnson became active in both state and federal practice. He is admitted to the bars of Wisconsin and to the federal courts serving the state, including the Eastern and Western Districts of Wisconsin and the Seventh Circuit. He is also admitted to the U.S. Supreme Court, a credential that has allowed him to appear in a range of appellate and federal matters.

Johnson holds a certification from the Wisconsin State Public Defender. That credential reflects work tied to public defense and court-appointed representation in the state. Over the years he has handled criminal defense assignments and matters that arose from those duties, bringing that courtroom experience into other areas of practice.

In 1980 he worked as a real estate title agent in Wisconsin. That role, carried out through his law practice, involved title examinations and related transactions. The title work joined his litigation and courtroom experience to produce a practice comfortable with both transactional detail and procedural demands.

Johnson has been active in the Door County legal community for decades. He joined the Door County Bar Association in 1972 and later served as its president from 2000 to 2001. That local involvement has kept him connected to county-level judges, clerks and fellow practitioners and has informed how he approaches matters that begin in small-town courthouses.

He maintains a private practice under the name Steve Johnson Law Office. From there he handles matters brought in Wisconsin state courts and in the federal forums where he is admitted. His work has included title-related transactions and cases arising from his public defender background.

After more than five decades in practice, Johnson continues to work from his law office in Wisconsin. His current practice handles state and federal court matters along with real estate title work.
