About Stephen Patrick
Stephen Patrick Pfeiffer grew up interested in history and politics, a curiosity that led him from Carroll College to law school. He earned a B.A. in History and Political Science in 2004 and completed his J.D. at Regent University School of Law in 2007. Those academic years laid the groundwork for a practice that centers on criminal defense and impaired driving matters.
Early in his legal formation he clerked for the Maricopa County District Attorney’s Office in 2006. That courtroom exposure preceded his move into private practice. In 2007 he joined Wolcott Rivers Gates as Partner and Marketing Chair, a role that combined case work with firm development. He later returned to Regent University School of Law as an adjunct professor in 2011, teaching and mentoring students while maintaining an active caseload.
Pfeiffer is licensed in Virginia and admitted to federal practice in the Fourth Circuit and the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia. He holds training recognized by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, including Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE) and DWI Detection and Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) certificates. Those certificates inform how he approaches cases involving impaired driving, field testing and the technical issues that often arise at trial.
Professional associations have been a steady part of his career. His memberships include the Virginia State Bar, the Virginia Beach Bar Association, the Norfolk and Portsmouth bar associations, and the American Bar Association. He is a fellow of the Virginia Law Foundation and has been involved with the Virginia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the National College for DUI Defense since 2013. He helped found the Central Business District Association (CBDA/CBDX) in 2009 and is listed as a founding member of the American Association of Premier DUI Lawyers beginning in 2015. He also belongs to the James Kent American Inn of Court.
Colleagues describe Pfeiffer as someone who balances litigation tasks with public-facing work. His background in marketing within a law firm and his adjunct teaching experience reflect that dual interest. In court he focuses on technical evidence, procedural issues and the tactical choices that influence plea discussions and trial strategies.
He maintains an office in Virginia Beach under the name Stephen Pfeiffer Virginia Beach DUI and Criminal Defense Lawyer and continues to practice criminal defense and DUI law. His current practice focuses on representing individuals charged with DUI and related criminal matters.
