Stephen M. Komie is a seasoned criminal defense attorney based in Chicago, Illinois, with over four decades of experience in trial and appellate practice. He is the principal of Komie & Associates, a firm specializing in federal and state criminal defense, DUI/DWI cases, family law, and appeals. The firm is located at 134 North LaSalle Street, Suite 1300, Chicago, IL 60602 — Komie earned his Juris Doctor from DePaul University College of Law in 1976. He also holds a Master of Arts in European History from the University of Arizona, completed in 1971. His legal education was further enhanced by advanced trial techniques training at the National College for DUI Defense at Harvard Law School in 1992 and advanced trial practice at the National College of Criminal Defense in 1977.
Admitted to the Illinois State Bar in 1976, Komie has an extensive list of court admissions, including the U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th, 6th, 7th. 8th Circuits, and various U.S. District Courts across Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, and Wisconsin. He served multiple terms on the Illinois State Bar Association's Board of Governors and has been a member of the ISBA Assembly since 1985. His leadership roles include chairing the Committee on Credentials and the Committee on Professionalism. He has also been a director of the Illinois Bar Foundation and a founding member of the National College for DUI Defense. He has represented clients, including individuals, clergy, and corporations, in both state and federal courts, as well as international tribunals.
