About Stephen J.
Stephen J. Plog built his legal foundation at New Mexico State University, where he earned a B.A. in 1992. He went on to receive his J.D. from Quinnipiac University School of Law in 1997. Those academic years set the stage for a practice that would span state and federal courts and a particular interest in family law matters.
He began practicing soon after law school and has since held leadership roles in two firms. He is a partner at Plog & Stein P.C., where he handles a range of contested and negotiated matters. He also co-founded Family Law Advocates, a boutique practice that grew out of a desire to concentrate on family court proceedings and related disputes. Colleagues describe him as steady in court and direct in client meetings.
Plog is licensed in Colorado and Florida and is admitted to the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado. He has been a member of the Colorado Bar Association since 1999 and maintains memberships with the Florida Bar Association and the Douglas/Elbert Bar Association. Those memberships reflect a practice that crosses state lines while remaining rooted in regional court systems.
His courtroom work involves hearings, contested motions and settlement negotiations. He regularly appears before family courts and before federal court on matters where jurisdiction requires it. He handles the typical range of family law issues: divorce proceedings, child custody disputes and support matters. He also works on ancillary issues that arise in family cases, such as enforcement and modification of orders.
Plog has balanced private practice with bar activity. His long-standing membership in the Colorado Bar Association began in 1999 and continues to the present. He also participates in the Douglas/Elbert Bar Association, a local bar group that often addresses practice questions and court procedure for attorneys working in that part of the state.
Clients and other lawyers who interact with him note a pragmatic approach. He tends to assess risk clearly and to counsel clients about realistic outcomes in litigation and settlement alike. He splits his time between his role at Plog & Stein P.C. and work at Family Law Advocates, where he focuses on family law cases and related court proceedings.
He maintains offices through Plog & Stein P.C. and Family Law Advocates and continues to practice family law in Colorado and Florida, including appearances in the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado.
