Stephen Guerra took a steady, conventional path into the law. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Michigan State University in 1996 and returned to Michigan for his legal training, receiving a J.D. from Wayne State University Law School in 2004. Those years in Detroit shaped his early approach to practice and gave him a base in state legal issues.
After law school, Guerra built a practice in Michigan. He has worked on matters that require courtroom advocacy, negotiation and written counsel. Colleagues describe him as pragmatic; he prefers clear analysis over flourish. He has spent much of his career handling state law matters for individuals and businesses, relying on an ability to break complex problems into manageable steps.
Guerra’s day-to-day work has involved both contested and noncontested matters. He prepares clients for hearings, drafts briefs and settlement documents, and advises on tactical choices. He also spends time on legal research and drafting, two steady parts of a lawyer’s routine that shape outcomes behind the scenes. He is comfortable both in the conference room and the courtroom.
He maintains current memberships in professional organizations and participates in local legal circles. That involvement keeps him connected to changes in Michigan law and to other lawyers around the state. He has not centered his public profile on academic writing or high-profile bar leadership, preferring practice and client work.
Guerra is now a member of Makower Abbate Guerra Wegner Vollmer PLLC. He practices in Michigan and serves clients from the firm’s office. His current practice concentrates on state law matters, combining courtroom work, negotiation and client counseling in service of local individuals and businesses.
