About Stephen G.
Stephen G. Cobb began his legal path in the classroom and the courtroom. He earned a J.D. from Florida State University College of Law in 1989 after completing undergraduate studies in the mid-1980s that included degrees from Victoria University of Manchester and the University of Missouri–Columbia. His educational background spans law and history, giving him a broad base for the work that followed.
He entered public service early in his career. In 1990 he served as an Assistant Public Defender, representing clients in misdemeanor and felony matters and gaining trial experience. That period exposed him to the practical demands of courtroom work and the pace of criminal litigation.
In 1997 he founded the Cobb Law Office, where he managed a caseload that included jury trials and motion practice. Over time his work shifted toward criminal defense at a broader level. He later became associated with the Florida Criminal Defense Legal Group, PLLC, where he practices today.
Cobb holds a certification from The Florida Bar Association as an expert and specialist in Criminal Trial Law. That designation marks formal recognition of trial competence under the bar’s specialist program. He also maintains professional ties to national and state defense organizations. He is a life member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and has been a member of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers since 1997.
Colleagues describe him as an experienced trial lawyer who relies on courtroom procedure and careful preparation. He has handled a variety of criminal matters, from pretrial motions to bench and jury trials. His approach reflects steady courtroom presence and attention to legal detail rather than public spectacle.
Outside the courtroom he has balanced practice management and casework, moving from public defense to private practice and firm collaboration. That trajectory mirrors a common path for criminal defense attorneys who begin in public service and later bring that experience into private practice.
Today he practices as part of the Florida Criminal Defense Legal Group, PLLC. His work centers on defending people charged with criminal offenses and representing them through trial and appeal when necessary.
