About Stephen Arnold

Stephen Arnold Black earned his undergraduate degree from Tulane University in 1978 and completed his J.D. at Whittier Law School in 1983. He entered the legal profession after law school and built a practice that spans more than three decades. His education set a foundation for work in both state and federal courts.

Black began his post-law school career as an associate at the Seltzer and Kay Law Office in 1987. He spent formative years there learning the rhythms of client work, case preparation and courtroom procedure. Those years shaped his approach to managing litigation and advising clients on procedural and strategic matters.

In 1991 he opened The Black Law Office and has operated the practice since then. Running a solo and small-firm operation for many years meant handling a wide range of day-to-day responsibilities: client intake, case management, filings, and appearances. Over time the office developed a steady stream of matters that required coordination across jurisdictions.

Black is licensed to practice in Florida and Texas and is admitted to appear before the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. That mix of state and federal admissions allows him to pursue cases in multiple forums and follow matters through different stages of appellate review when necessary. His work reflects the administrative realities of practicing across state lines and federal circuits.

Colleagues and contemporaries describe him as someone who has kept a steady course through changes in legal practice over the years. He has balanced solo practice demands with the occasional need to collaborate with other counsel. That balance has informed how he staffs cases, prepares for hearings and marshals documents for trial or appeal.

Outside of court filings and client meetings, much of his practice life has involved handling the administrative side of a small law office. That includes managing deadlines, supervising assistants and maintaining client communications. Those tasks are routine for many solo practitioners, but they are essential to keeping cases moving.

He continues to operate The Black Law Office and accepts matters statewide and in federal appellate proceedings. He practices from The Black Law Office, handling matters in Florida, Texas and in the Eleventh Circuit.
